One of the biggest challenges we face in life is praising God during difficult times. Yet, this act can be one of the most powerful coping mechanisms available to us. The Bible states, “Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel” (Psalm 22:3 NLT). Praise is not merely a statement of gratitude; it is a profound invitation for God’s presence. According to Psalm 22:3, God inhabits, dwells in, and is seated upon the praises of His people. This means that when we lift our voices in worship, we create a throne for God in our midst. He draws near, He reigns, and His power becomes evident.
In times of trouble, praising can feel especially challenging. Psalm 22 begins with a cry of despair: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” (Psalm 22:1). These words were echoed by Jesus on the cross (Matthew 27:46). Yet, even in suffering, David acknowledged that God remains holy and worthy of praise. This serves as a reminder that our praise should not depend on our circumstances but should be rooted in who God is.
Throughout Scripture, we observe the power of praise in bringing about God’s presence and intervention. For instance, when King Jehoshaphat and the people of Judah faced an overwhelming enemy, they chose to worship. As they sang, “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” (2 Chronicles 20:21), God set ambushes against their enemies, leading to their defeat. Their victory was achieved through praise! Similarly, in Acts 16:25-26, Paul and Silas were imprisoned, yet they prayed and sang hymns to God. As they worshiped, a great earthquake shook the prison, breaking their chains and opening the doors. Their praise literally brought them freedom.
No matter what you are facing today, remember that God is enthroned by your praise. Worship shifts your focus from your problems to the presence of God. It reminds you of His power, goodness, and faithfulness. When you praise, you invite God to reign over your situation, and His presence brings peace, joy, and victory. Be encouraged to praise and worship God, regardless of your circumstances.
